22/5/2026 Quo Connection feat Jeff Rich Review by Kev White

Quo Connection emerged from the ashes of John Coghlan's Quo (Coghlan founded Status Quo with Francis Rossi and Alan Lancaster before leaving in 1982). The group only played songs from Coghlan's era in Quo. Coghlan wanted to semi-retire and concentrate on other things but gave the band his blessing to continue.

For the last few years Quo Connection have kept the flame burning by only playing music from the Coghlan era. Many fans would argue that Quo's heyday was the 70s. The debate rages on! The band has a growing reputation as a phenomenal live act. They do work really hard and seem to be really enjoying themselves on stage.

This year the band has being joined by Rock royalty, former Quo drummer Jeff Rich (1985-2000) for a few gigs. Tonight being one of these.

The first set was kicked off with 'Caroline' followed by 'Softer Ride". Other highlights were 'Something 'Bout You Baby I Like', 'Spinning Wheel Blues', 'Paper Plane' and set closer 'Roll Over Lay Down'. The short breaks were very welcome tonight as the weather had been really hot all day.

Returning to the stage, the second set opened with 'Whatever You Want', other stand-out songs were 'Big Fat Mama', 'Hold You Back' (which got the crowd bouncing) and 'ended with Mystery Song'. The jubilant crowd shouted for more and the group played an encore of 'Don't Waste My Time', crowd favourite the John Fogerty penned 'Rockin All Over The World', 'Down Down' and end the night rather aptly with 'Bye Bye Johnny'.

It was during the second half that Jeff Rich gave a brief touching speech about leaving Quo to pursue other projects and what a joy it is to be playing Quo's music again.

Whilst the band only ever plays music from the Coghlan era which is admirable and this writer respects them for that, perhaps they could have played a song or two from Jeff Rich's era? Just a thought.

A great gig as ever by these guys.
