Derby based U2UK a tribute to U2 made a triumphant return to The Flowerpot.
U2UK have been together for 22 years and have a reputation for incendiary live shows born of constant gigging and honing their craft. They faithfully replicate the sound anf essence of U2, arguably one of the biggest bands in the world.
U2UK are a rarity amongst tribute bands who are not afraid of shaking up their sets and keeping things fresh, not only for themselves but also for the fans. They often dig deep into U2's extensive catalogue throwing curve balls.
The set tonight was a case in point with the inclusion of tracks such as 'An Cat Dubh', 'Kite', 'Gone' (A personal favourite) and 'Acrobat'.
The two hour set absolutely flew by. Paul Collyer as Bono sporting a new PopMart era haircut was very engaging with the audience and enjoyed a bit of banter.
Kicking off with 'Gloria' the show was a whistle stop tour of U2's career. Highlights included 'I Will Follow', 'Elevation', 'Beautiful Day', ''New Year's Day', 'Sunday Bloody Sunday', 'Bad', 'Pride (In The Name Of Love)', 'Red Hill Mining Town' and 'Mysterious Ways'.
'I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For' and 'Where The Streets Have No Name' played towards the end of the show, went down really well with the audience, as did set closer, the wonderful 'With Or Without You'.
This hometown gig is always so special for both U2UK and the fans. An absolutely brilliant night.
