12/6/2025 GUN – Hombres Tour Review by Kev White

Scottish Rockers GUN played their debut show at The Flowerpot tonight and it was a rather special stripped down acoustic gig.

The band first burst onto the music seen in the late 80s with debut album 'Taking On The World', the release was a real statement of intent. Aside from a couple of brief hiatuses aside they have been something of an ever present on the music scene.

Any artist or group who does acoustic tours are brave as there is nowhere to hide, mistakes would be more obvious and the songs played are in their rawest form and need to stand up for themselves. Also the musicians would be extremely confident in their own ability.

GUN were indeed on top form and the acoustic set was fantastic. There was plenty of banter and playful bickering between the group members and many witty asides and some funny anecdotes as they comfortably interacted with the crowd.

The set spanned the band's long career featuring well-known tracks alongside deep cuts.

Set highlights were 'Long Road', 'Falling', 'The Only One', Never Enough', 'Word Up', 'Better Days', 'Steal Your Fire', 'Inside Out' and set closer 'Shame On You'.

GUN have always been a great live band playing the usual electric sets in larger venues but as tonight proved they are as good, if not, better when playing acoustic sets in more intimate settings.

It would be wonderful to see this band back again at this superb local venue in the not too distant future.
