Guitar Heads is a super group featuring some of the most respected musicians from some of the greatest bands from the UK. So this was a real treat indeed.
The band is Jim Kirkpatrick (FM/Rhino's Revenge/Band of Friends) guitar/vocals, Paul Rose (Band of Friends) guitar/vocals, Chris Childs (Thunder) bass/vocals and Harry James (Thunder) drums. The chemistry in this group really works, they were really tight and played their hearts out.
Guitar Heads is all about playing the music that they all love and grew up with and celebrating some of the best guitar driven tracks in Rock music.
The show was approximately two hours of guitar heaven with anecdotes about particular guitars used and the band members gently ribbing each other as well as paying homage to their musical heroes.
The songs chosen were all completely faithful to the originals and showed the varied tastes of all involved in this project.
Set highlights included 'White Room' (Cream), 'Reeling In The Years' (Steely Dan), 'Green Manalishi' (Fleetwood Mac), 'Manic Depression' (Jimi Hendrix), 'Still Got The Blues' (Gary Moore), 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps' (The Beatles), 'The Boys Are Back In Town' (Thin Lizzy), 'Highway The Hell' (AC/DC) and Rockin' In The Free World' (Neil Young).
Guitar Heads is quite possibly one of the best covers bands that this writer has ever seen. The group clearly had fun on stage. It would be great if this band will continue releasing collections of covers and gigging as and when their schedules will allow them to get together.
