U2UK from Derby played a superb sold out hometown gig tonight. The band formed 22 years ago and deservedly has a hard earned reputation as the leading U2 tribute band in Europe.
The band is Paul Collyer (Bono) vocals, Simon Pellecchia (The Edge) guitar, Ade Aslam (Adam Clayton) bass and Tristan Snowden-Poole (Larry Mullen Jnr) drums.
The set kicked off with 'Zoo Station', followed by 'Even Better Than The Real Thing' and 'Mysterious Ways'. The band were truly on form this evening, playing better than this writer has seen them do in quite some time, this is largely down to new drummer Snowden-Poole who seems to have brought new energy to the band. This writer has never seen U2UK have an off night but the gig tonight was on another level.
The one hour forty-five minute saw the band playing songs from right across U2's career which had the crowd singing along. Highlights of the gig were 'Sunday Bloody Sunday', 'New Year's Day', 'Gone', 'Angel of Harlem', 'Desire' which saw Collyer and Pellecchia leaving the stage and walking through the audience whilst playing and singing which always goes down well, 'Bad', 'Pride (In The Name Of Love)', 'Vertigo' and set closer 'With Or Without You'.
The atmosphere in the gig room was electric and the gig felt like a special occasion, everyone had a great time. If you like U2, you will love U2UK.
