9/12/2023 Dr. Feelgood Review by Kev White

Canvey Island's finest Rhythm and Blues band, Dr Feelgood made a welcome return to The Flowerpot.

The group formed in 1971 and to this day have a hardcore following, many fans going to as many gigs as they can on each tour. One bloke at the venue tonight was attending his 400th Feelgood show, a feat acknowledged by the band, such is the loyalty and devotion that this band commands. Based on the performance tonight, it is easy to see why people come out time and time again to see Dr Feelgood.

The current line-up is Kevin Morris (drums), Phil H Mitchell (bass), Robert Kane (vocals/harmonica), Gordon Russell (guitar). They do an incredible job of keeping the music and flame of Dr Feelgood alive and well and are not shy of creating new music as evidenced by the recent release of the excellent new album 'Damn Right'.

The 75 minute set was full on energy with the band delivering a blisteringly good performance with both group and fans feeding off each other, the gig actually felt more like a party.

Highlights of the set included 'Down By The Jetty', 'She Does It Right', 'Damn Right', 'Roxette', 'Shotgun Blues', 'Milk + Alcohol', 'See You Later Alligator', 'Down At The Doctors' and set closer 'Gimme One More Shot'. The encore saw stunning versions of 'Riot In Cell Block No 9' and it wouldn't be a Christmas gig without 'Run Run Rudolph'.

The audience were certainly left with that Feel-good factor! A superb gig, this writer will certainly be going to see them again in the not too distant future.
